20 November Adjunct Assistant Professor Andrew Moddrell's firm PORT architects was unanimously selected the winner of the open, international competition "WPA 2.0: Working Public Architecture" for the project "Carbon T.A.P.// Tunnel Algae Park." The jury included Elizabeth Diller, Cecil Balmond, Marilyn Taylor, Walter Hood, Stan Allen, and Thom Mayne. Images and a video of the project are available on Bustler.
4 November Clinical Assistant Professor Julie Flohr's "Variable Infrastructure" was named a winner in the Gehry Technologies competition "What's Your Problem?". For the announcement and more information, visit www.gtstudio.org.
24 September "Stadt-Igel," a project by Assistant Professor Alexander Lehnerer's firm Kaisersrot, is on display at the 4th International Architecture Biennale in Rotterdam through January 10. Six globes produced by UIC students during Lehnerer's Summer 2009 elective course are also being exhibited at the Biennale.
21 September Adjunct Assistant Professor Iker Gil's practice MAS studio released the Fall 2009 issue of its journal, MAS Context. The issue, titled "WORK," is available for download from www.mascontext.com.
3 August Associate Professor Sharon Haar received a grant from the Driehaus Foundation for her research on Social Entrepreneurial Networks in Architecture.
21 July At the July 2009 meeting of the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), the professional Master of Architecture program was renewed for the maximum six-year term of accreditation. In its "Summary of Team Findings," the Visiting Team Report (VTR) concludes that "In spite of a global period of economic uncertainty, the School of Architecture is well poised to effectively meet these unknown challenges and to prepare students and faculty for a successful future." 30 June Professor Doug Garofalo was selected as a University Scholar for 2009-10 from a pool of extremely talented faculty members nominated from across the University. The University Scholars Program was created to honor and reward outstanding teachers and scholars.
