Bruno Ast has served the University of Illinois at Chicago and School of Architecture since 1969 and has taught at every level in the curriculum. He has held assignments as Area Chair and Curriculum Coordinator in the undergraduate program and the Option 3-2 Graduate program, as Director of Undergraduate Studies from 1990 to 1994, and as Director of Graduate studies from 1994 to 1996. In addition to teaching, Ast is the Associate Dean for Facilities and Academic Affairs in the College of Architecture and the Arts, a position he has held since 1996.

Ast is the founder, with his partner and wife Gündüz Dagdelen, of Ast + Dagdelen Architects. Prior to founding the firm, he was a senior architect in the office of Harry Weese and Associates and Skidmore Owings and Merrill where he participated among other projects in the design and planning of the new State University of New York campus at Buffalo, NY, the design of the Regenstein Graduate Library at the University of Chicago, and the Geological Survey Headquarters at Reston, Virginia.

Ast is the architect for the Kent State University May 4, l970 Memorial at Kent, Ohio. Ast was selected for this project through a national design competition in which his project was selected as the first place entry. Other recent works include major residential renovation and new construction projects.

Ast has served as guest lecturer and design critic for a number of architectural schools; as a panelist and lecturer to professional and community groups, and as a juror to design awards committees.
