Traveling Studio in Barcelona

The School of Architecture maintains an autonomous study abroad program in Barcelona, Spain. Classes are taught in English by Barcelonan architects, with curricular oversight from Chicago. Coursework is coordinated with the UIC architecture curriculum such that all work in Barcelona transfers seamlessly. Classes are held in a fully equipped studio facility that is located proximate to student housing.

Graduate students have the opportunity to study in Barcelona during the Fall Semester. Coursework consists of a design studio, and course in theory, drawing, and professional practice. Students have the opportunity to intern in an office for a short period. Optional Spanish language instruction is also available. As part of the program, students also undertake guided travel to other locations in Europe.

Undergraduate students participate during the Spring Semester of the 3rd year of the undergraduate curriculum. The semester consists of coursework taken during the "Design and the City" semester, including Building Design Studio IV, Introduction to Building Science II, and the Design and the City lecture/seminar.
