Cost
Tuition for Y ARCH 2008 is $1500. This fee includes a kit of basic studio supplies, resources to familiarize participants with Chicago and UIC, and admission to all events, lectures, and trips. For more details on what Y ARCH includes with the cost of tuition, please visit the Y ARCH Resources page.
Payment Policies
A nonrefundable application fee of $30 must accompany each application. This fee will be applied to tuition for accepted students. The remainder of the tuition is due no later than June 1. All payments must be made by certified check or money order to the University of Illinois. Y ARCH cannot accept credit cards or personal checks.
Additional Costs and Considerations
Sketchbook: Y ARCH requires that students keep a sketchbook for exercises and visual notetaking. The sketchbook should be securely bound, have plain paper pages, and measure no larger than 8.5x11 and no smaller than 4x6. Moleskine sketchbooks have proven popular with both students and faculty.
Transportation: Participants should expect to travel to lectures, tours, and events via public transportation. Although parking is available on campus, spaces are limited and Y ARCH cannot waive parking lot or garage fees.
The UIC School of Architecture is located just Southwest of Chicago's downtown, the "loop." The campus is easily accessible via the CTA's Blue Line (UIC/Halsted stop) as well as many city buses.
Housing: Y ARCH will not offer housing in 2008. However, applicants who would like advice on securing a place to stay in Chicago may contact Y ARCH for help on an individual basis.
Meals: Y ARCH will provide lunch or dinner to participants approximately three times each week. The remaining meals are an individual responsibility. Dining options on and around the UIC campus are plentiful, and a refrigerator and microwave are also available in the studio.
Recreation Facilities: For an additional $34 fee, Y ARCH participants can access the UIC fitness centers throughout the program. Details on this opportunity will be available soon.
Dress: Dress at Y ARCH is casual. For those relocating to the city, Chicago is often very hot and humid in July. Participants should prepare to dress for comfort in both the air-conditioned studio and during prolonged excursions outdoors.
