Schedule

Y ARCH 2008 runs July 7 - August 1. Accepted students should expect a full-time commitment during these four weeks, including weekdays, some evenings and Saturdays, and additional coursework to complete at home. All Y ARCH activities are coordinated to provide a well-rounded, comprehensive experience. Consequently, students may not participate in less than the entire program.

Typically, mornings at Y ARCH consist of tutorials and discussions. During these sessions, faculty will introduce students to key concepts in the history and theory of architecture as well as basic graphic techniques, both analog and digital. Students will bring these ideas and skills into the studio, where they will work most afternoons. These efforts culminate in an exhibition of participant projects and equip the student to compile a portfolio of his or her work.

Several evenings per week, students attend lectures by UIC School of Architecture faculty, embark on sketching assignments throughout the city, visit design firms, and enjoy dinner as a group. Potential Saturday field trips include architecture tours in and around Chicago.
